This is Marie T. Russell, co-publisher of InnerSelf.com, wishing you a day of seeking to understand and respect everything and everyone (today and every day).

Comment from Marie:
So many of us have grown up to doubt (and fear) things that are unlike us or unlike the experience we are familiar with. Whether that is someone with a different culture, language, skin color, or something that is alien to our everyday existence. I remember as a child, having grown up in a French-Canadian community which was all Catholic, going to church with my parents in the "big city" one Sunday and discovering that the mass was in English. I was shocked to discover that English people were not all "pagans" (LOL) and that some of them were actually Catholic. I had assumed, growing up in a French and Catholic community, that the two went hand in hand.

And so many things in our life are also assumed in that way. Different cultures express themselves differently. When I backpacked through Italy when I was 20 years old, I thought the people talking in the street were arguing because they spoke so loudly and passionately. But no... that was just their culture.

We need to open our mind to "what is" rather than blindly accept what we have been told or taught or that we simply assumed. And some of "what is" may actually be things (or people) we cannot see, as discussed in the book about ghosts from which today's Daily Inspiration is excerpted:

The focus for today is:

I strive constantly to better understand,
and respect, everything, and everyone.

Today's inspiration was written by Theresa Cheung:

I’m on a mission to mainstream the supernatural. I have always had a strong belief in the afterlife. This was not just because of my spiritualist upbringing but because of my academic study of the metaphysical world while doing my degree in Theology and English at King’s College, Cambridge.

What followed was a lifetime of research into the possibility of ghosts, which has shaped my writing career. I’ve been lucky enough to collaborate with academics, doctors, neuroscientists, psychiatrists, psychologists and parapsychologists researching the science of consciousness, as well as authentic mediums and psychics. And, most important of all, I’ve had hundreds of discussions with people who have shared with me their paranormal experiences.

I believe that every experience of a ghost or haunting should be treated with the utmost respect. They are an undying part of the human experience, and instead of dismissing or denying them, I believe that we need to strive constantly to understand them better.
