This is the direct path:
Turn every moment of your life
into a meditation.
Every moment of your life is your practice, if you want to look at it that way. You can call it the path of tantra; you can call it anything you want. It doesn’t matter what words you use. Just grasp this idea:
Every moment of life is your meditation.
Whatever happens, whatever unfolds in front of you, is a vital part of your path.
When you get up and go to the bathroom, it can become a wonderful meditation that leads to great depth and serenity. Sit on the throne and feel the wonder of your being.
When you’re eating breakfast, you’re meditating. Feel the food and drink nurturing and strengthening your body and mind.
Feel the vibrant healing energy that moves through your body every moment of your life.
Repeat the mantra “Every day, in every way, I am getting better and better.” Or “I am in perfect health, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.”
When you’re sitting in traffic, you’re meditating. You can reflect on the koan given by Suzuki Roshi at the San Francisco Zen Center: How do I become enlightened while driving on the freeway?
Every Moment Can Become A Moment Of Meditation
Turn an argument with someone into a meditation on your anger. Turn a moment of frustration with yourself into a meditation on your expectations and demands.
That’s the direct path. It’s different from anyone else’s path — it’s absolutely unique.
You are absolutely unique. And so your path is unique.
If you try to follow anyone, even a beloved teacher, and model your path after theirs, you will never reach your fullest potential.
You come to realize who you are only by knowing and accepting every bit of yourself, every moment, and fully being yourself every moment.
Finding Your Own Unique Path
You will never be Jesus or Mother Teresa or Buddha or Pema Chodron or Buckminster Fuller or Eckhart Tolle (to name a few great teachers at random). You can only be yourself every moment. Discover who you are, and you find your own unique path along the way.
We can call it tantra, we can call it the direct path, we can call it using skillful means, creative visualization, or anything else. It is the path of discovering your deepest dreams and desires, and realizing who you are in the fullest, deepest sense.
You are limitless. You are light. You are eternal. You’re a star!
Our Life and Our Life Situation
Great truths can be stated simply; Eckhart Tolle has the ability to clearly sum up something in a way that can immediately affect the quality of our lives. Every word he writes or says is pure tantra, if you look at it that way. Looking at every moment of our lives through the lens of his understanding can bring us love, fulfillment, freedom, and enlightenment. He once summed it up this way:
We have our life,
and we have our life situation.
Our life situation will always be exactly the way it is, filled with our life stories that so often have problems, difficulties, challenges. Life is tough. The world’s a mess. That’s undeniably true. But we don’t have to get anxious or depressed about it if we just keep remembering that we have our life, as well as our life situation.
Being Life Itself
We are life itself, the energy of the universe endlessly creating itself. That is who we are.
When we realize that, we connect with that energy, we are that energy, and all our problems dissolve in an instant.
All we need to do is remember this:
We are not our life situation
or our life story.
We are life itself.
We are a shining, radiant field of light and love. We are a vast conscious awareness viewing the play of our lives from a place of peace, serenity, total acceptance, and, most of all, love, love, love.
