Pasteurization, a process where milk is heated to a temperature that eliminates most bacteria and viruses, is a vital defense against disease transmission in milk. Compounding the peril is the virus's unsettling capacity to commingle its genetic material with other influenza strains, particularly those harbored by swine. Pigs are susceptible to avian and human influenza varieties, and these viruses may heighten lethality and transmissibility among humans. This process echoes the conditions that precipitated the 1918 Spanish Flu catastrophe, which exacted a staggering toll of millions upon the global population.
