InnerSelf's Daily Inspiration

August 30-31-Sept.1, 2024

The focus for today is:

I don't have to be perfect in order to do a good job
being a parent, a spouse, or a friend, etc.

Today's inspiration was written by Cher McGillivray:

There is a huge amount of pressure on parents today – from feeding babies the “best organic purees” to making sure older children get all the developmental opportunities they could possibly need, while of course documenting the whole thing on Instagram.

There is also no shortage of advice about how to go about this. Just as there is no shortage of debate about the “best way” to parent your child.

But what if parents just focused on being a “good enough parent” instead? You do not have to be perfect in order to do a good job of raising a child. In fact, it may be better if you are not.

This is Marie T. Russell, co-publisher of InnerSelf.com, wishing you a day of being "good enough" (today and every day)

Comment from Marie:
This comment goes out to all the perfectionists out there and self-critics (message to self). As long as you do your best, that is perfection. You don't have to be perfect, do things perfectly. You simply have to do your best. And when you don't, give yourself a break, since we all have "bad hair days", and days when we don't feel like even trying. But just try to do your best... whatever that means at each particular moment. If you are sick in bed, doing your best obviously won't include running a marathon, but it might include trying to keep a positive attitude and not taking out your frustrations on the people around you.

Our focus for today: I don't have to be perfect in order to do a good job being a parent, a spouse, or a friend, etc.
